MOVING TO A NEW COUNTRY IS AN EXCITING TIME AND HONG KONG IS A VERY SPECIAL PLACE FOR BRITISH EXPATS.

Hong Kong has a longstanding tradition of embracing expatriates and foreign workers, integrating them into its vibrant cultural landscape.  Living in Hong Kong offers significant rewards – it serves as a key gateway to global markets for multinational companies in industries like Technology, Finance, Advertising and Human Resources. The city is a global financial hub with a robust economy, providing numerous career opportunities

Why Hong Kong?

Its efficient public transportation system makes commuting a breeze, while the city’s vibrant cultural scene, including festivals, art exhibitions, and diverse culinary experiences, ensures there’s always something to do. Additionally, Hong Kong boasts stunning natural landscapes, from hiking trails in the mountains to beautiful beaches, offering a perfect balance between urban and outdoor lifestyles.

Visa requirements

If you are a UK citizen looking at visiting Hong Kong, you can normally stay for up to six months without a visa. However, if you are looking to relocate to work or study in Hong Kong a visa is required.

Understand your tax position

There are a range of tax considerations to be aware of when moving to Hong Kong. Understanding the rules in the UK and in Hong Kong is very important. Comprehension of the UK’s Statutory Residence Test (SRT) and your residence position is the first step to getting this right.

Education

Schools in Hong Kong are well regarded. While public schools uphold a high standard of learning, the curriculum is mostly taught in Cantonese. As a result, most expat families choose to enrol their children in international schools.

Healthcare and medical insurance

The Hong Kong government provides healthcare to all residents, including nonpermanent residents, with minimal or no cost. With a Hong Kong ID card and valid visa, you’ll automatically qualify for public healthcare benefits. However, generally expats are expected to be provided with healthcare coverage by their employers as a condition of visa approval.
