“At the heart of everything is trust. I believe trust and honesty are what carry you through both life and business, and that’s exactly what I’ve found with John and Progeny. I trust him implicitly, he’s never given me any reason to doubt his advice in over 22 years. That’s a long time, and I can still remember exactly where our first meeting took place. I remember walking out of that meeting thinking, “Wow, that’s what an adviser should do.”

Before that, we had been with another pension adviser through a company scheme with around 10 or 12 employees. It always felt like he didn’t really care, it was just a group arrangement. He took his commission, set up the investments, got the contract signed, but there was no real advice. There was nothing about planning ahead, no discussion about retirement age, mid- or long-term goals, or where we wanted to be in the future.

All of that changed when I met John. From the very first meeting, I found him incredibly professional, direct, and down to earth. He took the time to go through everything properly, asking lots of questions and making detailed notes. There were no rushed or instant decisions. A couple of weeks later, we met again, and he presented a clear plan based on my current position, outlining how we could move forward with the right investments.

From that point on, our relationship developed into more than just adviser and client, we built a genuine friendship. Since then, John has guided not only me and my wife, but also our five children. He’s helped them with things like mortgages and financial investments, and really supported the whole family.

Progeny has become our go-to place for financial matters. Over time, many of my friends and colleagues have also been introduced to the company, which is a testament to the results they consistently deliver. Financial planning can be a complex and challenging journey, but with John as my independent financial adviser, and with the support of Progeny, I’ve been guided through it with confidence.

Now, I’m in a position where I can retire whenever I choose. I’m turning 70 this year and, while my wife is encouraging me to retire, I still enjoy my work and find it rewarding.

Over the years, we’ve built a strong asset base. I’ve trusted John to organise our investments, from property to ISAs, while also ensuring we’re positioned as efficiently as possible from a tax perspective ahead of retirement, especially having contributed significantly over the years. Capital gains tax has also been an important consideration, and John has provided clear guidance in that area.

For example, around five years ago, we purchased another property, which we now rent out and which generates a very strong income. One of the key advantages of working with Progeny is that it feels like a true one-stop shop. Whether it’s buying property or making investment decisions, we always have access to informed advice from people who fully understand our financial situation, what’s realistic, what’s affordable, and what makes sense.

It’s reassuring to be able to make decisions quickly, but also with common sense and confidence. And whenever we’re unsure about something, we know we can rely on clear guidance and reassurance.”
