We’re delighted to announce that Progeny has signed up to the Mindful Employer Charter – a set of voluntary aspirations for employers who are positive about mental health.

Established by the NHS, the charter for ‘Employers Positive about Mental Health’, to give it its full title, demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to better mental health at work.

Unlike other accreditations or quality standards, it aims to recognise those employers who are working towards better mental health in the workplace, no matter where they are in their journey.

It has been empowering employers across the UK to achieve better mental health and wellbeing at work for over 15 years, and it now boasts more than 1,000 signatories.

The Mindful Employer Charter six values

The charter contains six values, all of which we fully embrace at Progeny:

  1. To provide non-judgemental and proactive support to staff experiencing mental ill-health
  2. To not make assumptions about a person with a mental health condition and their ability to work
  3. To be positive and enabling toward all employees and applicants with a mental health condition
  4. To support line managers in managing mental health in the workplace
  5. To ensure they are fair in the recruitment of new staff in accordance with the Equality Act (2010)
  6. To make it clear that people who have experienced mental ill-health will not be discriminated against, and that disclosure of a mental health conditions will enable both the employee and employer to assess and provide the right level of support or adjustment.

Wellbeing is a priority at Progeny

We’re more aware than ever of the value of looking after our people and signing the charter is another way of building on this commitment. At Progeny, wellbeing is one of our top priorities and we try and do everything we can to support and encourage a healthy and happy team. The Progeny People Index provides examples of how we’re supporting wellbeing right across the company.

For many of us, this last year-and-a-half has sometimes not been easy, which is probably an understatement. The numerous lockdowns have come with different challenges for us all. Whether it’s turning our hand to home-schooling, finding that we’ve had a bit too much of our own company, or trying and failing to keep the cat out of video calls, our mental wellbeing is likely to have been tested, along with our patience. Employers have played an important role in supporting individuals through these challenges, as noted in Progeny Head of People, Gill Wetherill’s recent article.

We’re proud to join all the other signatories of the Charter and continue to be as dedicated as ever to supporting our people and allowing them to be the very best version of themselves at work. We don’t sit still at Progeny; we are always looking to see what more we can be doing and we’re really pleased that we’ve taken another step in our journey to being a truly mindful employer.
