Parents and carers Press Release

B Corp Certified professional services firm, Progeny, has launched a Working Parents and Carers Support Network, to raise awareness of the issues they face and inform policy in this area.

The Working Parents and Carers Support Network gives parents and carers the opportunity to discuss their various challenges and provides a forum to consult and advise on policy development and best practice. This is in recognition of the difficulties in balancing caring and workplace responsibilities, that can often result in people leaving or taking a break from paid work.

According to a recent report by PensionBee, two-in-three people are likely to take time out to provide unpaid care at some point during their working life and estimates that for every year spent out of work to perform unpaid care, a pension pot is roughly £5,000 lower at retirement.

People Specialist at Progeny, Kasia Bardyga, comments:

“Caring responsibilities are closely linked to an increased risk of financial vulnerability and it’s really important that businesses look at how they can both better understand and mitigate the challenges that working parents and carers experience. Along with recent positive changes to our family friendly working policies and practices, including enhanced paternity pay and an updated leave of absence policy, we’ve launched this support network to create a safe space for discussion and consultation on future support.”

Business Development Manager, James Corby, who is a member of the network comments:

“Setting up a support network for working parents and carers within Progeny is a progressive step and reflects their willingness to support employees with the challenges that can be faced through all forms of caring responsibilities. The potential to use lived experiences to guide and influence decisions and policies is certainly empowering.”

Progeny became B Corp Certified in June, which verifies high standards of social and environmental impact across five key stakeholder areas – governance, workers, environment, community and customers.
